Any documents issued in English from any persons or entities aboard, such as personal status certificate, marriage registration, divorce registration, family status certificate, etc., for use as reference in Thailand, are required to be authenticated by Royal Thai Embassy/Consulate located in the issuing countries or the embassies of the issuing countries located in Thailand prior to being translated into Thai and legalized by the Department of Consular Affairs, Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The documents legalized by the Department of Consular Affairs will be considered as legal and can be submitted in support of any registration, including marriage registration, family status registration for the change of first name/last name or other at the District Office (subject to some exemption of certain embassies). 

Similarly, documents issued in Thailand must be translated into English and legalized by the Department of Consular Affair, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Chaeng Wattana Road), in order to be used in other countries. However, some countries may require additional authentication by their embassies located in Thailand prior to be legally used as reference in those countries.
